Ariyo Catholic Learning Institute is a Jesuit educational mission of the Society of Jesus, Eastern Africa Province. Founded to respond to the urgent need for quality, faith-based, and holistic education in and around Bonga, Ariyo especially seeks to serve young people from underserved communities. From its inception, the institute has been envisioned not merely as a school, but as a center of human formation, moral development, and community transformation.

Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, Ariyo is committed to developing the intellect, nurturing conscience, strengthening character, and inspiring service to others. Education here is understood as a journey toward maturity, responsibility, and hope—grounded in the teachings of Christ and the values of the Catholic Church. Ariyo aims to form ethical leaders who will contribute positively to Ethiopia and beyond.

The institute’s story began in 2019 when a Jesuit team first visited Bonga and recognized the deep educational needs of the region. Land was secured in 2020 with the support of the Vicariate of Jimma-Bonga, and planning progressed steadily in the years that followed. Construction officially began in 2023, and by 2024 the school facilities were taking shape—thanks to the perseverance of the Jesuits, benefactors, and the local community.
Guided by Church and Jesuit leadership, including the Vicar Apostolic of Jimma-Bonga and the Jesuit Provincial of Eastern Africa, Ariyo stands as a mission of education, service, and long-term accompaniment—dedicated to forming young people of competence, conscience, and compassion.
